Welcome to 123 Meeting Street, a distinguished property at the corner of Meeting and Queen Streets in historic Charleston. This four-story gem (with an elevator!) boasts a blend of timeless charm and modern potential. The upper two floors are thoughtfully designed as a spacious and move-in-ready residence featuring four bedrooms and three and a half baths, offering a perfect retreat with ample room for comfort and style. The lower two floors, previously utilized as a law office, are configured as professional office spaces. With its current commercial zoning, this property presents a unique opportunity for both living and working - or you could reconfigure the offices into a strictly residential friendly layout. It's the best of both worlds! Adding to its appeal, 123 Meeting Street includes rare downtown amenities such as parking for up to eight vehicles, a coveted feature in the heart of Charleston. There is also a large rooftop off of the third floor that could easily be converted to a luxury garden or porch. This property embodies the essence of historic elegance combined with practical functionality. According to the 1852-1856 City of Charleston Ward Books, Dr. H. W. DeSaussere occupied the three story brick house on the property. It was identified as 77 Meeting Street. Unfortunately, the Great Fire of 1861 and the Union bombardment on Charleston during the Civil War did extensive damage to the structure. The space remained an empty lot for almost three decades, changing ownership from Mrs. John Mahoney in 1871 to Mr. August Wickmann around 1886. The 1884 and 1888 Sanborn maps indicated no structure at the site as well. By the 1890 City of Charleston ward book, the property contained a two story wood structure. The 1902 Sanborn map also illustrated a two story wood structure and identified the address as 121 Meeting Street. According to the 1967 Sanborn map, the structure changed and combined with 123 Meeting Street.
